SMART 2011 Objectives

Learning Workshops

  • Support the 6th Annual Reentry conference with an emplasis on imporved reetry effectiveness;
  • Facilitate monthly workshops - Variety of topics ranginf from working with the Criminal Justice System, to DHS relationship and processes, and Behavioral Wellness;
  • through SMART Bulletins, link members to other learning opportunities.

Community Awareness - Members and Non-members

  • Expand Social Networking through Facebook;
  • Condcut six to ten Focus Groups with people incarcerated or recently released to understand more specific service requirements and steps that the individuals and organizations can take to improve reentry effectiveness;
  • Continue improvement of SMARTNY.org website - Primarily change the format to enable easier access to services and resources information;
  • Provide on-going SMART Bulletins to include information about employment, treatment opportunities, research, grants, learning, etc. 250 to 300 people currenly receive the Bulletins.

Collaboration

  • Work with the Monroe/Rochester Recovery Network to implement the Access to Recovery initiative. The services will impact 2700 people over a four year timeframe. The services include Treatment and Recovery Services to include employment, life skills, etc. Multiple providers will participate.
  • As requested by a Member(s), SMART will facilitate collaboration for specific populations and/or services.

Institutional / System-wide Change:

  • DHS-SMART working relationship. Continue to strengthen relationship through learning workshops and a more effective pre-release through post-release process for people incarcerated in Monroe County Corrections.
